Who is it for?
DSLR cameras are better suited for people with a higher level of photography interest. Digital SLR cameras give you complete control over your shots, have higher megapixel ratings than digital point-and-shoot cameras, and are more flexible with interchangeable lenses. DSLR cameras also carry a higher price tag. The base body starts at about $800. Add lenses and other attachments and you can easily get over $1500.

On the other hand, point-and-shoot digital cameras are easy to use because they do auto-focus and pretty much do everything automatically. They are compact in size, some can even fit in your shirt pocket. They have a much lower starting price point as well.
