  1. 7 Steps to Buying a Digital SLR Camera

    1. 1. Read everything about the product.  Go to the manufacturers’ websites and look up the different models and their specs.  Make sure the available features fit your needs.
    2.
    3. 2. Decide on a budget.  This is an investment and you obviously want to spend your money wisely.  Also, don’t forget to factor in costs for attachments and accessories such as lenses, stands, memory cards, etc.
    4.
    5. 3. Read reviews by professionals:  If you visit a review site, you’ll read very detailed information by the professional reviewer.  You’ll find very helpful information about a DSLR’s features and capabilities.  They will also provide you with their rating system.  Again, this will be very useful.
    6.
    7. 4. Read user opinions:  There’s no better source for honest opinions than from the people that own and use the product.  Go to any one of the popular e-tailers, look up several DSLR models and read what owners think about the product.  Use these positive/negative ratings to help in your decision making.
    8.
    9. 5. Narrow down your choices to 2 or 3 models: There are many brands and models to choose from.  The analysis you’ve done in the previous steps should hopefully get your selection down to 2 or 3 cameras.
    10.
    11. 6. Go for a test drive: Go to your local store and handle the products.  You want to be comfortable with the camera.  Ergonomics should play a role in your decision making.  If you’re serious hobbyist or professional photographer, you’ll likely be using your DSLR for long periods of time so you find one you’ll be comfortable holding and that the button placements are to your liking.  If the store will let you, take some shots and ask to see it on a monitor or even printed out.  If you can do this to your 2 or 3 choices, the printer or monitor factor shouldn’t factor into the equation.  It’s the difference in output between the camera models that you will compare.
    12.
    13. 7. Price shop: Visit the e-tailers and compare prices.  Obviously, we prefer you buy from our website.  Because these are auctions, you’ll likely find the lowest prices here.
